 Grading – 15% total grade  Do it and present it: 5%  Evaluation – did you make a clear and relevant point about each of the 5 principles of testing? 10%  Presentation procedure:  sit in assigned small groups (1 st time: all 1s,2s,etc.; change places; 2 nd time: all a’s, b’s,etc.)  take turns presenting:  briefly explain:  what kind of test/class; objectives; issues you identified with 5 principles  answer any questions group has  complete peer-evaluation form for each other  help each other monitor time (maximum 10 min/person) 3

 DISCUSSION:  How do the following issues relate to standardized proficiency testing (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, etc.)?  accountability  washback  impact  gatekeeping  validity 4

 How valid is the test for proficiency testing???  The Speaking Section: 1. Practice doing the first two Speaking Tasks. 2. In pairs, discuss: How valid do you think this task is for assessing speaking proficiency? 5
