Statistics -3% of Women will be affected by an Eating Disorder in their life time -Girls and women are more commonly affected -Carry high physical and mental illness that may lead to death
-Over exercising, more then is good for health - Gives a sense of power, control and self respect -Not clinically recognized as a diagnoses -Being fanatic about weight and diet -Rarely satisfied by physical achievements
-Obsessed with controlling eating - Used to control their lives -Commonly begins during puberty -Recognized by extreme weight loss -Inability to maintain normal height and weight
Bulimia Nervosa -Secretive excessive eating followed by self induced vomiting or misuse of diuretics, enemas, and laxatives -Weight loss is not as noticeable as anorexia nervosa -Triggered by depression and stress
Binge Eating -Use food to cope with stress and other emotions -Compulsive over eating -Eating episode generally lasts 2 hours -Guilt, disgust and depression
