 DRS offices are influenced and shaped by  Rehab Act  ADA  ADAAA  Disability rights advocacy  Disability Studies

 Meet strategic goals  Board & staff monitor, plan and execute  5 Standing Committees expand capacity  Enhance members’ professional skills  Resources, e.g Documentation Guidance  Grow organization, members & influence  International reach and resources  Requests for expertise, e.g. MIUSA, GAO-testing

 Expand DRS campus linkages  Collaborations, e.g. NCTA, ACUHO-I  DRS population trends  Intellectual disabilities, Veterans  Monitor emerging issues & connect where appropriate  CRPD

 Shaping questions, influences  Are we past the “compliance era” in DRS?  How do we balance equity, access and respect for the disability experience alongside regulations/laws?  How does and can scholarship from Disability Studies influence DRS practices?  Always – what is the purpose of a professional association?

 Language of disability to be explored  Going beyond “person first” disability language  Use of disability language by the association  Research about DRS practices  Research assistant now on staff  Grants and other vehicles for research to define best DRS practices being explored

 Expanded international connections  New tools for formalized relations with individuals & groups in other countries to align with AHEAD  CRPD ratification by US may lead to greater involvement in global inclusive education efforts  Increased collaborative work with organizations seeking to expand focus on inclusive education and practices  Joint trainings, e.g. NCTA, ACUHO-I

 Continued discussions on how to “verify” a disability professional is a disability professional  Expanded professional guidance  Beyond 2012 documentation  Such as  Resources for initial student meetings  Considering/reshaping messages about disability  Creating DRS missions and strategic plans

 Achieving diversity goals  Limitations of volunteers  Differences among and across DRS office and staff configurations  Breaking the compliance mind-set  Staying current – e.g. technology
