Guess the Covered Word Goal 1 EOC Review

Scientific Method A process that guides the search for answers to a question.

Conclusion A statement that explains the relationship between the variables of an experiment

Control Group This group shows what happens if there is no change to the independent variable.

Sample A group, subset, or portion of a population analyzed to estimate the characteristics of an entire population.

Hypothesis A possible explanation or tentative answer to a scientific question.

Dependent Variable This responds to a change in a scientific experiment.

Experimental Group Has conditions identical to the control group except the independent variable has been changed.

Independent Variable Variable that the scientist changes in a scientific experiment.

Bias A conscious or unconscious predisposition to a particular idea or conclusion.

Theory An explanation based on repeated observations that is subject to testing. Experiments support or disprove.

Prediction A statement suggesting what might happen, based on data and experiences.

Inference A deduction or assumption based on observations and prior knowledge.

Observation A record or note made by studying something using the senses.

Evidence Data and observations collected during a scientific experiment.

Model A comprehensive scientific explanation. Examples are drawings, 3-D structures, computer simulations, mathematical descriptions.

Biology The study of life. The science of asking questions about the natural world.

Scientific Question Questions that can be studied through observations, testing, and analysis
