Siamese Fighting Fish By Jennifer

Food Siamese Fighting fish or Betta Splendens are carnivorous. Their diet tends to consist of Bloodworms, mosquito larva, daphnia, mysis shrimps, tubifex worms and mealworms

Predators The Siamese Fight fish become prey to larger fish, cats, newts, salamanders, and birds.

Habitat The Bettah Splendens are freshwater fish. They are found in the Mekong River that runs through a number of countries in south-east Asia. The Siamese fighting fish are native to the Mekong delta in south-east Asia. Today the Siamese fighting fish can be found in Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia, however it is thought to have originated from Thailand.

How do they do it? O_o The Female and Male Fighting fish circle one another. While doing this between 10 to 45 eggs are released and fertilized at each embrace. When female Siamese Fighting fish has released all of her eggs, the male Siamese fighting fish chases her away from the area to keep her from eating the eggs. The male Siamese fighting fish carefully protects every egg in his bubble nest, making sure none fall to the bottom, and repairing the bubble nest as needed. In a few days the process will be complete.

Do People Eat Siamese Fighting Fish? No.

Behavior Siamese Fighting Fish flare or puff out their gills or opercula in order to appear more impressive. They are very aggressive. They kill or harm smaller fish. Male Fighting fish are more aggressive however. They even become aggressive towards their own reflections thinking that it is another fish.

Genetics Siamese Fish Range in multiple colors. When they are agitated, startled or stressed there colors tend to become bolder.
