Job Sharing By: Margo Rabb Antrim

The Reality Seven out of ten adults in the United States say they experience stress or anxiety daily, and most say it interferes at least moderately with their lives. ( Anxiety Association of America, 2007)

The Research According to the recruiting company, Flexecutive, the number of full-time teachers who would like to reduce their work hours amounts to 40 percent. (Roberts, 2005)

What We’re Looking For... Millions of Americans are searching for a better way to balance career, family, and everyday life.

Could Job Sharing Be Right For You?

Definition The definition of job sharing is when two teachers share one classroom.

The Facts Research has shown that parents and students who have been involved in a job share said it was a positive experience both academically and from a self esteem standpoint.

Kelly Watson, founder of a human capital resources company states that “job sharing is the most effective and underused flexibility option to retain workers, particularly women who are opting out of the workforce to raise families”. (Watson, 2007)

North Carolina has a law written by Senator Howard Lee that encourages job sharing by offering the incentives of FULL health and retirement benefits. In most other states, job share participants receive benefits related to the percentage that they work.

Things to Consider Before You Enter Into a Job Share: Educational Philosophy Classroom Management Style Flexibility Communication
