The 5 Themes

 The mid-west region is north of Mexico and south of Canada.  The latitude and longitude of Chicago, the largest city in the mid-west, is 41° 51' 0" N / 87° 39' 0" W  Some of the major cities are Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa

A reason for people to live in this region is because Super Bowl XLVI was just held in Indianapolis. The Super Bowl is a gigantic event that is known around the world. Another reason would be if someone were to come to the United States from somewhere like Canada they might want it to be colder just like it would have been when they were in the place they came from.

The weather patterns of the mid-west is colder in the winter, and warmer in summer and spring The mid-west has the five great lake, the Mississippi River, and prairies. There are many traditions and customs because of the different migrants that come to the U.S.A. and into the mid-west.

The climate plays a big role in the settlement patterns because most people like to live in warmer climates because they spend less on cloths, and it is a more enjoyable climate. The mid-west has a colder climate which most people do not like. Therefore more people than not would go to warmer regions that are closer to the south.

 Climate has affected the settlement of the Midwest because more people than not would want to live in more southern areas because of the warmer climate.  Growing energy prices combined with weather- related supply problems has slowed economic growth in nine Midwestern states

Pollution has affected people’s lives because many people have volunteered to help clean up things like water pollution. This affects people because it takes time out of their day, and affects many of the animals that live in oceans, lakes, seas, and rivers.

 People have chosen to live where they do in the Midwest because of the different climates, resources, and landforms of the different states.  Goods are transported to and within the Midwest by train, plane, ferry, boat, and car.  There are many different traditions and customs in the Midwest because of the multiple people who migrate to the U.S. and choose to live in the Midwest.

If one or more of the transportation methods were interrupted it could cause mayhem. This would be caused because many people would be out of a way to get from one point to the next and wouldn’t be able to get anywhere.

 Some major tourist attractions are the Super Bowl was held in Indianapolis which is in the Midwest this year.  A unique characteristic is that last year the Packers, who represent Wisconsin, won the Super Bowl.

The Midwest has an effect on the U.S. economy because the Midwest was basically built off of manufacturing. Since then, however, labor and income from the Midwest’s factories has dropped which in turn affects the U.S.’s economy because of the lowered economy of the Midwest.
