CIM Users Group 2009 Status Update Terry Saxton Randy Rhodes CIMug Co-Chairs UCAIug Annual Meeting November 9, 2009

CIM Users Group Organization CIM Users Group Executive Board – Sets annual agenda CIM Processes Working Group – Plans two meetings each year – Oversees IEC liaison status and document security – Manages Help Desk process – list at Other working groups (EAI, Tools, Model Exchange & Naming, Testing & Compliance) – Merging will happen this week

Business Activity in 2009 Increase in interoperability testing – UCTE Interoperability (IOP) Test European TSO involvement – Part 9 Metering IOP – Dynamics IOP Growth in membership – Steady stream of help desk requests (one every three days or so) Web Site Enhancements – Model Issues list – Improved multi-site search – Calendar roll-up – What’s New list Sponsored UCA Co-Lab for future web capabilities – Six areas of improvement underway – Current focus: group , Subversion configuration management

Challenges Smart Grid focus is accelerating standards development – NIST Assigned Accountability in U.S. – ARRA Smart Grid Investment Grants – IEEE Activity Picking Up (Committees, portal) – UCA subcontracted to Enernex for SGIP Resources are very stretched No paid staff for CIM Users Group support Utility co-chair changed jobs – replacement being elected this week

Recommendations for 2010 Focus on delivering NIST PAP assignments Delegate non-critical meeting tasks to a part-time meeting planner Invite student involvement for help desk support and general web support Sponsor webinars for better communication with members between meetings

Questions Is our current model scalable for growth? How will we address the NIST PAP assignments? What would help working groups get more done? Is the two-meetings-per-year agenda still the best approach? What training is needed? – Are pre-conference tutorials the best approach? – Would webinars help? – What kind of website training is needed? What website improvements are most important? – Role-based navigation – Quick access to use cases and draft documents – Group /listserv/discussion/messaging capabilities
