Project Two Improve Working Condition

Why I need to improve?  Obey the Federal Laws and LBNL (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory ) policy  Prevent eyes injuries  Being cut by metal chips  The air mixed with oil and coolant

Milling Machine Produce metal chips and heat Coolant sprayed out at high speed creates smoke and mixes into the air. It is dangerous when I breathe it

Lathe Machine Produce metal chips and heat Motor oil sprayed out at high speed creates smoke and mixes into the air. It is dangerous when I breathe it

Method of improvement Step 1: Determine job hazards Step 2: Execute the information Step 3: Create active authorization

Step 1: Determine job hazards Communicate and work together with the workers Observe the working area Note down all job hazards Use “Risk Assessment Matrix Form” to navigate the hazards activities

Step 1

Step 2: Execute the Information Fill the Job Hazards Analysis form Find the controls for each hazard activity

Step 2

Step 3: Create active authorization Let the supervisors or work leads see the Job Hazard Analysis. If they agree, they sign off and make an active authorization Allowing work to implement the controls Training the employees Note: JHA must be reviewed and updated annually or if there are hazards

Implement Wear safety glasses Wear gloves Get industrial fans to blow hot air out Get medicine such as eyes drop, eyes wash

Cost of implement Glasses: 6 people x $3 = $18 Disposable Gloves: 12 month x $23/box = $276 per year Air-master” fans: 2 fans x $1479 = $2,958

Benefits The company won’t get a fine and continues operating Prevented serious damages which can harm worker’s labor such as eye injuries, arms or finger lost Pay less medical bills (estimate cost for eye injury $19,000) Workers work harder and faster

Overview Use procedure to create the new regulations and improve working condition To protect employees from the injuries Obey the Federal Laws and LBNL policy

Future Plan Organize all the tools
