Thesis Statement

A thesis statement presents a topic, a claim about it, and supporting points (usually 2 or 3). It is the last sentence in the Introduction paragraph. You will develop the supporting points in the body of your essay.

Thesis Statement = topic + claim + supporting points Dogs are great pets because they are friendly and loyal.

Bad Thesis Statement Eating fast food is bad.

Good Thesis Statement Americans should stop eating fast food because the fast food diet leads to health issues, such as diabetes and heart disease.
