The Hoosier state Indiana's state capital is Indianapolis.

The crossroads of America the Indiana state motto can be traced back to the 1800s, when the east-west National Road and the north-south Michigan crossed in Indianapolis. Today more major highways intersect in Indiana than any other state. Indiana’s total area is square miles. In terms of size, it ranks 38 th among the states and the smallest of the twelve Midwestern states.

Geography Indiana is bordered by Lake Michigan and Michigan in the north and by Kentucky in the south. On the east is Ohio and on the west is Illinois. The highest point in Indiana is Hoosier Hill in Franklin Township at 1,257 feet above sea level. The lowest point in Indiana is 320 feet above sea level, where the Wabash River flows into the Ohio River, in Posey County.
