VOCAB #1 “A Teacher Speaks”

ASPIRATION  Students should have many aspirations, including finishing middle school, graduating, and finding a way to start a food fight without getting caught.

INDELIBLE  Writing on a desk with pencil is one thing. Writing on a desk with indelible ink is an entirely different thing.

OBSCURE  The school operated under an obscure set of rules.

QUAINT  The one-room schoolhouse was too quaint for the hipster.

DIPLOMAT  The student council was made up of the most unusual set of diplomats- the class clown, the math geek, and the homecoming queen.

PREMIER  Mrs. Hying considers herself to be the premier 8 th grade English teacher on this floor.

NEUTRAL  When it comes to fights at recess, try to be like Switzerland… just don’t get involved.

SALUTATION  When a teacher offers up a salutation in the morning, it’s polite to return it.

FOREWORD  The worst part of any book is the foreword. Who cares what some unrelated odd-ball has to say about the story, just let me read!

CONFISCATE  The students cried when their phones were confiscated.
