Unit 3 Ethical and Professional Issues

 What is your favorite vacation spot?  Growing up, who taught you the most about ethics, and what did they teach you?

 How would you define the word, Ethics ?  Why are ethics important in the field of Crisis Intervention?

 Use of Paraprofessionals  What do you think about the use of paraprofessionals in providing crisis intervention?  Pros?  Cons?

Self- Awareness: Therapeutic awareness: being conscious of one’s own emotions, values, opinions, and behavior. Countertransference: unconsciously determined attitudinal set held by the therapist which interferes with his/her work.

 Dual Relationships:  What are some examples of the type of dual relationships that are unethical?

 Confidentiality  What is the benefit of providing confidentiality?  Privileged Communication

 Abuse Reporting  Elder  Child

 Informed Consent  Clinicians must make sure clients have the ability to make rational decisions.  Therapists must give clients information in a clear way and check their understanding of the risks.  Clients must consent freely to treatment.

 Supervision and Training

 Burnout and Secondary Post-traumatic Stress Disorder  Syndrome of physical and emotional exhaustion involving the development of negative self-concept, negative job attitudes, and/or a loss of concern and feelings for clients.
