H AKA D ANCE Haka dance is disciplined and emotional. It is part of Maori culture. The complex dance is an expression of vigor, passion, and identity of race. K A MATE, K A MATE Ka mate, Ka mate - the unusual All Black haka – it was poised in the early 19th century by famous Māori warrior chief known asTe Rauparaha, of the Ngāti Toa Rangatira tribe.
'K APA O P ANGO ' Kapa o Pango It was written for the All Blacks by Derek Llardelli. Derek Llardelli was an expert haka composer from the Ngati Porou tribe. It roughly translates as 'All Blacks', and the haka also makes reference to the silver fern, a Kiwi sporting icon.
H AKA PERFORMANCE The decision on which haka is performed before an All Black test is normally made by the team before an event. All Black management articulate it depends on how the team in an event is feeling, and who their opponents are.
