Friday – November 14, 2014 Mr. Lombardi Aim: How did the Industrial Revolution impact history? Do Now: What were the CAUSES and EFFECTS of the Industrial Revolution? Reminder: The Industrial Revolution was both, positive and negative for society.
The Industrial Revolution
Activity 1: “Jigsaw” You were given a number (1-8). Form a group made up of all the students who have the SAME number as you (there will be a total of 8 small groups). You (as a group) are responsible for reading, analyzing, and answering your group’s one document. – ex: entire group of 1’s work on Document 1 only; entire group of 2’s work on Document 2 only; etc. 5 minutes.
Activity 2: “Double Jigsaw” Within your group, you were given a letter. Form a new group made up of all the students who have the SAME letter as you. – Each group will be made up of one “representative” per document (based on the previous jigsaw groupings). You are now responsible for representing your document to the rest of the group. 15 minutes.
Activity 3: Individual Refer to the DBQ Essay Scoring Rubric. Create an outline and/or graphic organizer for the essay portion of this DBQ exam. You may use this outline to write the actual DBQ essay tomorrow in class. Don’t forget to include (and label) “OUTSIDE INFORMATION” in your outline/essay.

How to write a Thematic Essay: 1.Read the essay Theme and Task. 2.Decide who/what you will be writing about. 3.Decide how many total paragraphs the essay needs to be. – Multiply the “amount” from the task by the “bullets” of the task. 4.Read the scoring rubric. 5.Outline/pre-write the essay. 6.Write a first draft on loose leaf/scrap paper. 7.Proofread/edit your first draft. 8.Write the final version of the essay neatly in the essay booklet.
