Early College High School Parent Orientation

Mission Statement “Transforming our Communities through Innovative Learning Opportunities”

Dual Enrollment / Early College High School High School students take courses from a postsecondary institution while still enrolled as a high school student and receive credit at both the high school and postsecondary institution.

Benefits Students are able to obtain college credit, which could be applied towards a TSC Certificate or Associate Degree Students can transfer academic core courses to Texas public colleges or universities Reduces the time to complete a postsecondary degree Provides opportunity to experience college courses Improves understanding of what is required to succeed in college

What Every High School Student Should Know Are You READY For Dual Enrollment Classes? 1.In order to take dual/concurrent enrollment coursework, a student must meet enrollment eligibility requirements. 2. High school dual/concurrent enrollment students are considered college students. – Know college/university vocabulary – Know and follow college/university policies & procedures – Meet college/university deadlines for registration & drops

Student Responsibilities Are You READY For Dual Enrollment Classes? Students enrolled in Dual Enrollment courses are required to maintain regular and punctual attendance in all classes. The student is responsible to communicate with faculty members concerning any absence; in advance whenever possible. Dropping a course is the responsibility of the student and not taking the appropriate steps may result in a grade of “F” (failing) for the course.

Support Services Library Services Computer Labs Tutoring Center Labs Early Alert and Intervention Program Disability Services *Students will be required to show a TSC ID to verify that they are Dual/ECHS students when using these services.

Checklist STUDENT: STEP 1Complete the online application at STEP 2Test for the TSI exam. See “Eligibility Criteria” for more information. STEP 3Submit completed “Student Guidelines & Parental Consent” form to counselor. STEP 4Meet with counselor and select from courses available. COUNSELOR: STEP 5Submit the following: TSI test scores Most current student transcript (optional) Completed “Student Guidelines & Parental Consent” form STEP 6Submit complete class rosters by deadline.

Student Academic Standing Good Standing: A student in Good Standing maintains at least a 2.0 overall Grade Point Average Academic Probation: Any student who drops below a 2.0 GPA at the end of the semester will fall into Academic Probation.

Withdrawing A Course Are You READY For Dual Enrollment Classes? Should it become necessary to drop a dual enrollment course, the student is required to submit a signed Withdrawal form on or before the established deadline. Withdrawal form can be obtained from the school counselor or at School counselor must submit form. Fall 2015 Withdrawal Deadline is November 13, 2015

Satisfactory Academic Progress Academic (SAP) Maintain 2.0 cumulative GPA Complete 67% of the credit hours attempted [15 SCH = (10)] [12 SCH = (8.7)] [ 9 SCH = (6)] Financial Aid (SAP) takes into account GPA, completion rate, AND Time frame of completion (Max. Semester Credit Hour)
