Objectives 1. Show understanding of NONFiction analysis process. 2. Evaluate and utilize appeals to persuade the reader on a given topic. Construct a project utilizing appeals to sell a product. 3. Understand and Identify Commas Homework:

Warm uP: Write one sentence to persuade your teacher that you deserve candy. Utilize one of the three types of appeals in your response.

1. Use after an introductory word*, phrase*, or clause. ex. Today, I will eat toast. ex. For lunch, I will eat pizza. ex. When I eat dinner, I will eat steak. * Unless followed by a verb ex. Today is Tuesday. In the morning is my appointment. 2. Use to separate a pair of equal adjectives (as long as they can be reversed) or items in a series (unless items are joined by conjunctions). ex. It was a dark, stormy night. ex. He is a tall basketball player. ex. I like a taco with lettuce, onion, tomato, and cheese. ex. I like a taco with lettuce and onion and tomato.

3. Use to set off an interrupter (2 commas). ex. John, unfortunately, lost his kitten. ex. A turkey sandwich, by the way, is a healthy lunch. 4. Use to set off interjections, direct address, “yes” and “no,” and interrogative tags. ex. Oh, I didn’t see you there. ex. Your hair looks awful, Morty. ex. Yes, I’ll marry you. ex. You are the cutest, aren’t you?

 Each small group will be a different superhero.  The earth is in danger and I must choose one superhero to defend mankind as we know it.  Using logos, pathos, and ethos, your group must convince me that your superhero deserves the honor of saving the world.
