Kellock Lodge Project

What is a sensory garden? Most gardens offer visual appeal, but a sensory garden is designed to stimulate all five senses. People with disabilities such as visual impairment or dementia can enjoy nature in a safe, tactile environment. A garden targeting everyone to use their sensors. (hearing, taste, smell and sight)

This is very important to residents as they need a garden where they can just relax and enjoy themselves in their own space. Motivates everyone to use all of their motor sensors. Why a sensory garden for Kellock Lodge? It is relaxing and peaceful for the Kellock residents.

Plant ideas Plant ideas

Sunflower This would be good for a sensory garden because they are big and bright. This plant would be under the sight of a sensory garden. Nigella Damascene These plants have a really nice colour and they would look really nice in the garden. This would be good for sound because when the wind blows or a shaken these little seeds rattle inside.

Lavender Lavender would use your smell sensors, it has a really strong scent and this plant is in so many people’s gardens for that reason. Jerusalem Sage This is a really nice flower because it is bright and good for the Kellock Lodge. This would be under touch because its got soft downy leaves and yellow flowers.

Apple Tree When it’s the right season these apples will grow nice and juicy and then all the people in the Kellock Lodge can just pick them off and eat them. An apple tree would be under taste because you can eat the apples off the tree.

Features & design ideas Features & design ideas

Raised garden beds can be made in all shapes, sizes and colours. Our plan is to recycle, already a raised garden bed is being made by students in VCAL made from old school desks. Raised garden beds They are very practical, able to put almost any planting in garden beds, easier to maintain as well as being perfect height for residence to look after as well as at visual height for everyone.

Water feature? The water would have a natural sound, without thinking it everyone would be using their hearing sensor, as well as simply causing people to feel relaxed and calm.

The real question is… Why shouldn’t you Help out local workers. One day it will be you in a home similar to this one, and I’m sure you too will want to be surrounded by a beautiful and garden made specifically for your needs. Why should you get involved?
