San Francisco Bay Area Council Friends of Scouting (FOS) Campaign Friends of Scouting is THE Annual Fundraiser to help raise funds for the San Francisco Bay Area Council of the BSA to help our kids.

WHY do we do this? So they can Have Fun Have Good Social Experiences Be Good Citizens Honor their God Be of Service to Others Learn Discipline Learn Skills Prepare them for the Future Its for our KIDS !!

The San Francisco Bay Area Council We have five districts in the council – Golden Gate (San Francisco & Daly City) – Mission Peak (Union City, Fremont & Newark) – Peralta (Oakland & Emeryville) – Tres Ranchos (San Leandro, Hayward, Castro Valley, San Lorenzo) – Twin Valley (Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, Sunol) Covers San Francisco and Alameda Counties Consists of 300 Packs, Troops, Posts and Crews Serves 10,335 youth in these units.

SFBAC Camping Facilities The council operates 3 Outstanding Camps Rancho Los Mochos – in the hills above Livermore, ideal for short term camping, training, camporees and National Youth Leadership Training. Camp Royaneh – in the coastal redwoods, near the coast, west of Santa Rosa. Operates 6 weeks of Boy Scout summer camps, Weeblos Adventure Camp and a weekend of Family Vacation Camp. It has 13 campsites which are available for unit use throughout the year is Camp Royaneh’s 90 th Anniversary. Wente Scout Reservation – in the hills outside Willets, CA. The 80 acre lake offers wonderful water sports. It operates 8 weeks of Scout Camps and 3 weekends of Family Vacation Camp. The camp has 2,200 total acres.

San Francisco Bay Area Council - The San Francisco Bay Area Council supports more than 390 units of packs, troops, teams, crews and posts. - The council office is on Davis Street in San Leandro and features the Youth Leadership Training Center, administrative offices, the Scout Shop and a 32 foot climbing wall. - The Council Office administers a whole lot of stuff - Membership - Finances- Volunteer & Staff Training - Fund Raising - Camping- Publicity - Advancement - Scout Shop- Personnel - Insurance Coverage - Camp Improvement- Professional Staff - Audio Visual / Supplies - Postage & Copying- Website Each District has a Full-time Scout Executive to administer activities, assist individual Units and work with the District Committee.

The Twin Valley District consists of 92 units and 3,070 youth, provides activities, training and assists the individual units. Activities - Pinewood Derby Tune Up- Tiger Cub Kite Day - District Dinner- Tiger Pumpkin Patch Day - Scouting for Food- District Camporee - Cub Day Camp- Scouting for Food - Popcorn Sales- Order of the Arrow Training - Monthly Roundtables - Blue Oak - High Adventure Training (HAT) - Scout & Cub Leader Training - University of Scouting - Wood Badge Commissioner Staff - Commissioners assigned to each unit - Assist with annual re-chartering Advancement / Eagle Boards of Review

Financing Scouting National All youth & adult registration fees go to National. Unit Individual units may charge dues, participate in popcorn sales and perform additional fundraising activities to raise funds for unit operation. Council and District To finance all of the District and Council activities, it costs an average of approximately $332 per single youth member. FOS raises about 15% of the SFBAC Operating Budget. The 2014 Twin Valley FOS Campaign goal was $115,00 The community campaign brought in $8,800 of the $15,000 goal. The Family Campaign brought in $98,254 of the $135,000 goal.

Friends of Scouting provides funds to pay for: (1) Council camps which include Los Mochos, Wente and Royaneh. (2) Provide professional help with programs (3) Provide Training programs for Adult and Youth Leaders (4) Provide administrative support for advancement, camping, programs. This year’s Twin Valley FOS goals include: The same goal $ amount as last year, but raise 100% of the $150,000 Make a presentation at each unit’s Committee Meeting, pass out pledge cards at beginning of the meeting and collect them at the end, announce the total as well as last year’s total for the unit. Provide a list of all prior year donors. Have an FOS presentation for the parents at a unit meeting by the unit FOS chairman or the district FOS committee, pass out pledge cards and collect them at the end of the meeting. FOS Chairmen to FOLLOWUP by contacting each family and prior year donors. Each unit to surpass last year’s totals by more complete coverage of parents.
