EuroSafe’s Mission Working together to make Europe a safer place ….. To ensure the highest achievable levels of safety in the entire European region by promoting consistent policies, programmes and infrastructures throughout Europe. Working together to make Europe a safer place

Our goals Working together to make Europe a safer place Better policies: to mainstream the issue of injury prevention in a coherent manner within EU policy agenda’s and programmes. Focussed actions on injury priorities in Europe: to establish purpose driven networks that move knowledge on good practices into policy action. Sharing of resources: to organise sharing of state of art intelligence in injury data (IDB) and in the collection of evidence based practices (EMIP). Sustainability: to ensure ongoing development and implementation of injury prevention actions in Europe. Working together to make Europe a safer place

Considerations Working together to make Europe a safer place Alcohol is not an ordinary product; Alcohol is associated with increased injury risk; Alcohol harms innocent victims; and Consumer right to be protected against harm. Working together to make Europe a safer place

Alcohol: a major injury risk factor Working together to make Europe a safer place Impairs vigilance: (already at 0,3 mg/ml). Exponentially impairment with increased intake. Clear correlation high consumption levels and accident rates in countries. Working together to make Europe a safer place

Alcohol: involved in 20-40% of all accidents in the EU (annual estimates) Working together to make Europe a safer place road deaths; home& leisure deaths; homicides; and alcohol related suicides. Working together to make Europe a safer place

Call to EU and MSs Working together to make Europe a safer place Effective pricing policies; Harmonised labelling; Alcohol free environments; Zero tolerance at work and on the road; Awareness raising and targeted action; Health sector lead in data collection; and EU wide monitoring.
