W22 Educational group leadership – the Nordic ways Room 9 Friday 15 th May

Programme Introduction (Helena Nielsen) The Norvegian model for groups in vocational training (Peter Prydz and Kristin Prestegaard) Group supervision in vocational training in Denmark (Henrik Hother and Martin Munk) Group work (2-4 groups) Discussion in plenum (Helena Nielsen)

AIM The aim of the workshop is to exchange experiences of different concepts of small group work in vocational training in Norway and Denmark, to discuss the role of the group leader and the meaning of different methods of group facilitating and supervision.

Background In Norway, facilitator-led groups have been a mandatory part of specialist training in general practice for more than 20 years. The curriculum of the group programme has been continuously renewed. In Denmark, supervision groups have been introduced lately as part of the last year of specialist training; the first trainees have completed 10 sessions of group supervision in the course of one year.

Purpose (besides other things) To strengthen professional identity as a GP To develop reflective practice.

Supervision groups in DK More than 1/3 of Danish GPs participate in supervision groups The education of supervisors for specialist training is based on several different supervision models used for GPs for 30 years

Supervision Groups in DK Helena G. Nielsen (unpublished questionnaire survey 2008)

The models for the trainees Kalymnos (”windows method”) Reflecting team Balint Bendix

Questions for the participants How did you experience the group model as to: ◦ The group leader? ◦ The group work? ◦ The tasks of the group? ◦ Benefits? ◦ Problems? If you are a group leader yourself what was the most useful of the experience?
