What is Polio? Polio or Poliomyelitis is a highly infectious viral disease, which mainly affects young children.
How is it Transmitted? The virus is transmitted through contaminated food and water, and multiplies in the intestine, where it can invade the nervous system.
Who does it affect? affects children under five years of age. Short Term Affects- fever, fatigue, headache, vomiting, stiffness in the neck and pain in the limbs. Long Term Affects-Complete Paralysis (usually in legs)
Treatment Not Cureable Polio vaccine, given multiple times, can protect a child for life.
