The harpsichord’s strings are plucked to produce a sound, but the organ’s different stops are pulled causing air to pass through different pipes. ► The piano was invented in the very early Classical period and uses hammers to produce sound. It was originally called the pianoforte because of it’s sensivity to dynamics. ► The digital keyboard was invented in the 20 th century and it reproduces digitally recorded sounds when it is played.
