Explanation Telemarketing fraud is selling fake items or services via telephone

Examples People will tell you that you have to buy now or the offer won’t be good later, or that you have to send your bank account number before you even have a chance to think of the offer fully.

Tips for Avoiding Fraud Don’t buy from unfamiliar companies. Always check out and research unfamiliar companies. Obtain a business name or mailing address for that company. Never respond to an offer you don’t understand.

Relevant Statistics 57 percent of whom are over the age of 50 lose a total of $40 billion to telemarketing fraud alone. Fraudulent telemarketing techniques have victimized 26 percent of the entire U.S. adult population at some point in their lives.

FAQ’s How do I stop unwanted calls from telemarketers? Are all telemarketing calls prohibited? Certain calls are not covered by federal law. Is unwanted telemarketing a crime? Yes.
