Cold War In his tenure Khrushchev oversaw many major situations that happened during the Cold War these include, the U2 affair, the building of the Berlin Wall, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The U-2 affair happened on May 1,1960 when the Soviets shot down a U.S. plane which was trying to gather Soviet intelligence data. The Berlin Wall was built on August 13,1961 and it divided East and West Berlin On October 14,1962 a U.S. plane say revealed that missiles were being built in Cuba. This was the closest they got to using Nuclear weapons in the Cold War.
