Editing Marks- Daily Oral Language Unit 1

Objectives:  To understand the purpose and differences of revising and editing  To be able to revise and edit sentences  To understand how to do Daily Oral Language (D.O.L) Warm Ups each day

What is proofreading? Should be done in different color pen! Proofreading is the process of reading the original copy and marking and changing errors to be corrected. (REVISING and EDITING) Proofreader marks are symbols that are used to mark corrections and changes to a document. Proofreader marks are found on the rough draft of a document.

Will spell check find all keying errors? Spell check will not find:  Homonyms – words that sound the same but have different meanings  Examples:  to, too, two  your and you’re  their, there, and they’re  Names and addresses that are not in the computer’s dictionary  Omitted words – words that have been left out but are needed in order to make a sentence make sense  Punctuation and capitalization errors  Spacing errors  DO NOT DEPEND on the computer! YOU MUST READ YOUR WORK before submitting it to guarantee you are correct.

Understanding DOL Warm Ups  Daily Oral Language-  You MUST copy what you see on the board…  You will then use editing marks and a DIFFERENT COLOR to edit the incorrect sentences  You will then write the sentences correctly in pencil or blue or black ink! (You shouldn’t use your editing/revising pen) When doing a Warm-UP entry you will need to… 1.Place the day and date on the left side 2.DO the warm-up COMPLETELY…they will be turned in weekly for a grade
