The Earth By: Gabby B. and Jenna

Shape The shape of the Earth is a sphere.

Location The Earth’s location is in the solar system, the Solar Interstellar Neighborhood, and the Milky Way Galaxy.

Composition Water covers about 70% of the Earth’s surface. The water is in the form of Oceans, rivers, lakes, and ground water. Also, it has 3 layers: the core, the mantle, and the crust. The core is very hot, the mantle covers the core, and the crust is Earth’s thin, rocky out layer.

Ability to support life It has ability to support life because of gravity, water, oxygen, and land.

Size The Earth’s size is 4,300 miles (6,900 kilometers) in diameter and 1,800 thick.

Ability to produce light The Earth has no ability to produce light because the Earth relies on the sun for light.

Additional facts 1. The Earth’s axis does not run straight up and down in relation to the sun. Instead it is tilted slightly. 2. The Earth is the fifth largest planet in the Solar System. 3. The layer of gases surrounding Earth is called the atmosphere.
