History of Howard College  The Howard County Junior College District was created by a county wide vote on November 17,  Seven representative citizens of Howard County were elected on that same ballot to serve as a Board of Trustees.  The college was first housed in the hospital area of the former Army Air Force Bombardier School, and began its first session on September 30,  On September 12, 1951, the college was moved to a 120 acre campus located in southeast Big Spring.  In 1973, the college acquired a 137 acre site in Martin County, near Stanton, Texas, to be used as an agricultural research and demonstration center.  A softball field was constructed in  In 1990 the original dorms were enlarged.  The Lamesa campus of Howard College, 45 miles north of Big Spring in Dawson County, was established in 1972.

What are the requirements for admission? Freshmen applicants must be in the upper half of the graduating class or submit a GED Certificate; have a minimum SAT score of 1000 or ACT composite score of 20. Two letters of recommendation from the high school are required. Transfer applicants from regionally accredited institutions must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale on 15 hours which shall include one English and one college-level Mathematics course.

Tuition cost The School of Education at Howard University has a rolling application deadline. The application fee for the Education program at the Howard University is $45. Its tuition is full-time: $29,090 per year and part-time: $1,615 per credit. The School of Education at Howard University has 30 full-time faculty on staff with a 3.6:1 ratio of full- time equivalent doctoral students to full-time faculty.

Grants and Scholarships offered Grants, scholarships, and fellowship funds come from various programs both inside and outside of the University. They may have a variety of requirements not related to financial need. Foundations, alumni and many University scholarship and fellowship funds are awarded by committees of the University’s schools and colleges in cooperation with Financial Aid. If interested, you should contact your school, college or The Office of Financial Aid. Full-time enrollment is usually required by agencies that award private scholarships. If you are awarded for less than full- time enrollment, the donor inform the Office of Financial Aid in writing.

Please visit the Bison One Card Office during the first two weeks of the Spring semester to cancel* the plan if you do not wish to participate in the Spring semester. *The last day for meal plan cancellations, add-on or changes will be Friday January 18th, 2013  Meals Meals can be used at the Blackburn Cafeteria. Students residing in Bethune Annex, Frazier, Truth and Tubman residence halls may also use the Bethune Annex Cafeteria

Free Time and Activities Howard University has an area to hang. It’s called the Blackburn.

Cost Range The cost range to live on campus for one semester is between $2,000- $4,000. There are 10 residence halls. Bethune Annex Hall and Tubman Quadrangle Hall are all female halls. Carver Hall and Drew Hall are all male halls. Cook Hall, Howard Plaza Tower East, Howard Plaza Tower West Honors, Mays Hall, Meridian Hill Hall, and Slow Hall are also part of the residence halls. All freshmen live on campus because it helps get involved in student life and other activities.

Student Organizations There are 217 student organizations on campus. There many sororities, fraternities, and volunteer organizations.

Entertainment Venues Howard University is near a lot of clubs and restaurants. Howard is also near two popular neighborhoods, Georgetown and U Street. They also have live music at the 9:30 Club, which is said to be the best venue in D.C.

Certificates Howard has many different fields of study. They offer degrees and certificates in the areas: Business, Education, Arts and Sciences, Communications, Dentistry, and Engineering, Computer Sciences, and Architecture.
