1957- ARPA internet Advanced Research Projects Agency  First internet  Used in war so they could exchange info. through a protected network  It placed the US in the lead

1968  ARPA makes contract with BBN  Network constructed in 1969  Linked in four universities  50 kbps circuits

1973  TCP/IP was developed  Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn  Allowed computers to connect with each other

1976 -Ethernet  Dr. Robert M. Metcalfe  Allowed data to move fast  SATNET, Atlantic packet Satellite network was developed  Connected the US with Europe

1979  USENET (the decentralized news group network) was created by Steve Bellovin.  Based on UUCP  BITNET by IBM. Used to info. “store and forward” “store and forward”

 ARPA net divides in 2  ANS, Advanced Network & Services connected all web pages  ARPA net was replaced by another network

 www, world-wide-web, was released  New hosts were added to the internet  Pizza hut offers pizza ordering & delivery on its web page  First cyber bank
