Lesson 1 extensive reading and CNBECT Step 1 brief introduction to the course —extensive reading 1. Definition Extensive reading mainly focuses on the ability to grasp the general ideas and find useful information in limited time. It does not require the reader to understand each word and expression.

2. The differences between extensive reading and intensive reading : 1) Intensive reading It mainly puts emphasis on the detailed study of the given materials. 2) Extensive reading it requires the general understanding of a variety of kinds of materials in limited time. Main ideas and the background knowledge are the central points to be paid attention.

3. To cultivate the ability to read fast and accurately 1)read as much as possible after class to enlarge vocabulary and expression 2) Train yourself to read in limited time. pay attention to the time you spend on reading.

Step 2 the brief introduction to the textbook and requirements This textbook is designed to expand the knowledge of business, especially the knowledge of management. Step 3 background information of CNBECT, esp. the reading part 1. Introduction It is organized by China association of international trade. It aims to test the ability of examinees in using English in business environment, including the four basic language skills: listening, reading, writing, speaking and translation.

2. requirements of the test listening: able to listen to materials with the speed of 130 words/ minute speaking: able to communicate in all kinds of business activities reading: able to understand different kinds of business materials, such as letters, notes, documents, advertisements. the reading speed will be 70 words/minute writing: able to accomplish the business writing task, involving resume, memo, letter, notice, etc. translation: able to translate simple business materials

3. the content The test includes the following content: 1) business office affairs 2) business etiquette 3) international marketing 4) international trade 5) other relevant information
