QUESTION????

 Someone who has a mental illness has moved next door to you.

Some one who has mental illness has moved next door to you. What do you expect the person to be like?

 Crazy  Retarded  Weird  Maniac  Drug Addict  Psycho  Insane  Dangerous  Violent  Recluse  Suicidal

How true are these stereotypes?  Let’s test your knowledge about mental illness.

There is a devastating illness that will strike one out of five people a some point in their lives-

 But we keep quiet about it out of

SHAME

Now is the time to break the silence about mental illness through education.

 Mental illness is a treatable brain disorder. And it is physical, just like heart disease or diabetes.  But most people do not get the help they need because of stigma and ignorance.

 Even one lesson on mental illness can make a difference in the lives of young people who may be struck by brain disorders such as

SCHIZOPHRENIA

MANIC DEPRESSION

OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER

PANIC DISORDER

BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER

 We have learned more about the brain during the past decade than in all the preceding centuries combined.  We now know it is biology, not a character flaw or bad parenting, that causes the serious mental illnesses which are classified as brain disorders.

 The good news is that early intervention can have a dramatic impact on the course of recovery.  The bad news is that few people receive prompt treatment.
