Traveling Vocabulary Continent – North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica Sightseeing – to see the famous 著名 parts of a place “Go abroad” – means to travel outside your country “Study abroad” Travel guide – a paper that tells you about a place Globe – world Nation – country “Go backpacking” – means to take a backpack full of food and clothes and walk around a country or continent

Traveling Idioms! Backseat driver – a person who sits in the backseat but always tells the driver how to drive “Turn left! Turn right! Slow down! Drive faster!” (not a good adjective)

Traveling Idioms! To make a pit stop – this means you need to take a break during a long trip. For example: “We have been driving for 5 hours. Let’s make a pit stop to eat and use the restroom!”

Traveling Idioms! Red-eye – this means your airplane flight is really late at night. For example 2:00AM. (It is called red-eye because your eyes are red from being tired!) “I took a red-eye to China last week.”

Traveling Idioms! Live out of a suitcase– this means you never stop traveling and all of your things are always in a suitcase “I’ve been living out of a suitcase for two months because my work makes me travel all the time!”

Traveling Idioms! Hit the road – begin traveling “Let’s hit the road!”

Traveling Idioms! Off the beaten path – path means place you walk, beaten means many people have walked on it… so “off the beaten path” means to go off/away from the place many people have visited “I want to visit Paris, but I want to go off the beaten path. I don’t just want to see the Eiffel Tower.”

Traveling Idioms! Running on fumes – fumes means smoke, “running on fumes” means your car has no gasoline, it only has smoke from the gasoline that makes it continue working “We need to stop for gas. We’ve been running on fumes for 6 km.”

Traveling Idioms! Pick up a language – learn a language “Before I travel to France, I would like to pick up a little French.”
