FDR Dies Here is the events that unfolded that surrounds Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s death. It was sad really, that it happened the way it did!

Yalta Conference Feb 4 th – The Yalta Conference held at the Livadia Palace at Yalta, Crimea (Ukraine). Single purpose was to discuss the re-establishment of the nations of war-torn Europe as a result of WW II and Cold War response (Democracy vs. Communism) Head of states involved (below) Winston Churchill (UK), Franklin Roosevelt (US) and Joseph Stalin (USSR).

Return Home Upon returning home FDR 1 st addressed the United States making us aware of the results of the Yalta Conference. After the address he retreated to his second home at Warm Springs, GA (Little White House) when he complain of a severe headache and suddenly passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage (stroke).

People where shocked to see how frail an thin FDR had become, most did not even realize he was sick. (Photo the day before he passed.)

Give Em’ Hell Harry Harry Truman as FDR’s Vice President becomes President on April 12 th. 1945,

Uncompleted Franklin Roosevelt was a man of follow through and it was said to see that he did not see the completion of the following event that he made happen, that changed the world.

VE Day FDR ultimate goal was to see the completion of WW II in Europe. VE (Victory in Europe) but was unable with his untimely death.

Manhattan Project FDR secret project to built the Atomic Bomb as a result of Albert Einstein’s letters was not realized by Roosevelt but was implemented by his replacement Harry Truman. The Trinity Test was on July 16 th, 1945, 3 ½ months after FDR’s death.

VJ Day As the result of the bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrender was inevitable. Truman decision to drop the bombs was a very difficult one and one that is and was certainly unprecedented and un- Presidentented, since a weapon of mass destruction had never ever been used before.

1948 Election As a result of the decision he had to make he was not afraid to say he is willing to make the hard choices. I slogan the stuck during the next election in 1948 where he pulled one of the largest upsets on Presidential History.

1948 Election

Truman Wins Early surveys and exit polls suggested that Truman was going to be defeated. By the end of the night Truman won in a tight race.
