Presentation transcript:

The Coordinate Plane SWBAT identify the four quadrants; identify and graph points in all four quadrants

Definitions  Coordinate plane – a grid system formed by 2 number lines that cross at 0.  Origin – the point where the two number lines cross (0,0)  X-axis – horizontal number line  Y-axis – vertical number line  Ordered pair – the coordinates that locate a point

4 Quadrants I II IIIIV (+,+) (2,3) (-,+) (-2,3) (-,-) (-2,-3)(+,-) (2,-3)

Musical Quadrants  I will call out a quadrant  You must hurry to the quadrant called and be the first to take a seat

Locating points  Start at the origin (0,0)  The first number tells you how many places to go horizontally  The second number tells you how many places vertically  The point should be placed ON the line

Locating Points  (1,5)  (-4,3)  (-2,-2)  (6, -4)

Try Me  (-2,-3), (0, -1), (1,-3)  (-1,4), (-1, -2), (3, -2), (3, 4)  (-2,5), (3,5), (6,0), (3,-5), (-2,-5), (-5,0)
