UMANT 2016 MEMBER SURVEY RESULTS

Q1: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO RECRUIT MORE MEMBERS FOR UMANT? Reach out to MPA students and others moving to the area EC should spend more time networking with first time attendees and less time among themselves I think UMANT does a great job already! Maybe a bring your work bff to UMANT shin-dig. I know I have a lot of friends at work who aren't part of UMANT Set a clear objective that is not too broadly written in order to attract members seeking the specific opportunities that you offer Engage other people and make the ask. Personal recruitment of people is by far the most effective tool. Resist the temptation for passive recruiting. Continue to have events throughout the metroplex to allow members to attend without consistently long commutes Networking lunches at/near organizations. Just spitballing here.

Q1: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO RECRUIT MORE MEMBERS FOR UMANT? Continue to partner with colleges and universities programs partner with local government and/or other agencies that interact with local government Offer more daytime events (that are less than 2 hrs) so it's easier for folks to get away and it's not competing with personal life Reaching out to HR departments and establishing a point of contact for new hires that would be generally interested in the org More volunteering opportunities (double as great recruitment events) Host events and incentivize them for non-umant members as well as to the membership (i.e. Bring your friends and get a $5 discount). Partner with universities

Q2: WHAT EVENTS DID YOU ENJOY THE MOST? WHAT MADE THEM ENJOYABLE? CONTENT LOCATION SPEAKERS NETWORKING

Q3: WHAT TYPES OF EVENTS DO YOU PREFER TO ATTEND?

Q4: WHEN WOULD YOU PREFER TO ATTEND EVENTS?

Q5: WHAT FACTOR(S) HAVE PREVENTED YOU FROM ATTENDING MORE EVENTS IN THE PAST YEAR?

Q6: WHAT INFORMATION WOULD YOU LIKE TO REGULARLY RECEIVE FROM UMANT?

Q7: HOW CAN WE MAKE THE WEBSITE MORE USEFUL TO YOU? I find it very accessible More intuitive click paths Provide examples of what UMANT does. In order to gain additional members, I feel it would be helpful to point to this website as a place someone can get info about why they should choose to join. I am not able to articulate benefits to them. Clearly, I still don't know why someone should join and would also like to use the website to learn the objectives of the various events It's pretty good as-is. Just some links to relevant sites or articles. It doesn't need to be like ELGL with a ton of original content, but maybe some really great things that coincide with an event we had recently or have coming up. Website? It's great currently! The current website works well. No recommendations

Q8: WHERE SHOULD UMANT EXPAND OUR FOCUS?

Q9: IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANY ONE THING ABOUT UMANT, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Consider organizing additional social outings for members to connect More events around and near Plano/McKinney/Richardson More inclusive feeling/more welcome to newbies Keep location of events in mind; make sure they are all over the metroplex versus one area Networking is always challenging for me. Creating activities that revolve around learning first and social second is attractive to me Provide opportunities to network without focusing solely on the networking opportunities. Other than expanding my contact list, I see limited benefits to most events. I'd always love to see more membership. Doing pretty well on that front, though. Keep it up.

Q9: IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANY ONE THING ABOUT UMANT, WHAT WOULD IT BE? I wish there were more of us and more to do in Tarrant county Still fairly new to organization, therefore, no recommendations I would focus on fewer, better attended events with dates set at least 3-4 months in advance. UMANT also needs to find a way to nicely phase out or transition out members who have grown beyond - like funnel them to NTCMA or other relevant associations. It's awkward growing out of umant-when am I considered "past" this? I'm not sure what umant could do beyond assigning members a new buddy each year, but i wish people would focus on getting to know each other and our respective work to foster solutions for our profession and our region. Our work is only getting more complicated. Given regional dynamics it's more important than ever that each of us is dedicated to excellence and supportive of each other. UMANT did encourage such connections in the concluding comments for the one day conference. Avoid golf or soccer events, look at other types of sports Eliminate meetings that occur during the work week, especially during the lunch hour.

Q10: WHAT CAN UMANT DO TO KEEP YOU AS A MEMBER IN 2016? Keep up the great content that we've been getting the last half-3/4ths of the year! Nothing! I really enjoy UMANT Live up to the claim that you want to add value to my career. Please identify how you add value, other than networking Keep doing what you are doing. Push recruitment and fundraising to continue to put on good events. Oh, don't worry about me. I'm in it for the long haul. I just hope i'm able to start contributing more sometime soon. Nothing i can think of at this time

Q10: WHAT CAN UMANT DO TO KEEP YOU AS A MEMBER IN 2016? Provide connections to more senior leaders. I was very impressed by the events for 2014 and have been more impressed this year. Thank you very much for your hard work. Have regular events where networking is abundant. Annual conference was great; speakers were hit or miss, though most were hit. Keeping costs down would be great; it's already quite a drive to get to most events. Have more conversations about problem-solving in the local government profession Have more speakers like Chris from the City of Irving
