Thoughtfulness means including and valuing each other.
What makes us different?
A story about including others no matter who they are.
On top of a windy hill lived Something Else.
He knew he was Something Else because everyone told him he was.
“You’re not like us,” they said. “You’re Something Else!” Deaf
Something Else tried to be like them. He tried to dress like them, play like them, paint like them. He even tried to eat his lunch like them.
But it was no good. “You’re not like us” they said But it was no good. “You’re not like us” they said. “You’re something else!”
How would you have felt if you were Something Else?
Do you ever treat people differently because of who they are, what they can do, what they like or what they look like?
Then one night as Something Else was going to bed, there came a knock on the door.
“Hello” said something else. “What are you? Can I help you?” “Great to meet you!” said the strange creature. ”Can I come in?” “Sorry!” said Something Else. “You are welcome,” said the creature.
Something Else looked at the creature Something Else looked at the creature. “I think you’ve come to the wrong place,” he said. “No I haven’t” said the creature as he walked in. “This is perfect!”
“Do I know you?” said Something Else. “Of course you do!” said the creature. Why can’t you see, I’m just like you. You’re something else and I’M ONE TOO. He stuck out a paw again and smiled. “No you’re not!” said something else. “Take a look in the mirror and look, you’re definitely not like me. You’re different to me. Now goodnight!”
The creature left. It reminded Something Else of something as he looked at himself in the mirror.
“Wait!” he cried. “Stop”. “No. You’re not like me BUT I DON’T MIND!” “You can stay with me”.
From then on they became the best friends. They smiled and said “Hi”, they painted pictures and tried to play each others games. They even tried each others lunches.
Then one night something strange happened. Another knock came at the door. It was something REALLY weird looking. But they didn’t say “You don’t belong here!” Instead the moved right up and made room for him too.
What things do you do to include and value others in the school?
Do you always think before you speak?
What would you write for a class THINK code to show your kindness?
Although we are all different, help us always treat others with kindness and to include them in the things we do. Amen
