1 Introduction –REQUIREMENT FOR PROJECT 1 (CHE498): 32 HOURS –REQUIREMENTS FOR PROJECT 2 (CHE499): CHE 498 – Project Title: suggested title for the project –Supervisor (s): The name of Supervisor for the student (team). If the project is for a company please include that information. –Project must be related a design of a plant or part of a plant and must include mass and energy balances, as well as design of equipment, study of safety and environement aspects and cost calculations. –Project report must be submitted at least one week before the examination and must have the approval of the supervisor.

2. PROJECT PROPOSAL PROJECT MUST BE RELATED TO A KNOWN PROCESS WITH AN AVAILABLE FLOW SHEET. GROUP PROJECT: MAXIMUM NUMBER OF STUDENT PER PROJECT IS 2. GROUP PROJECT MUST BE JUSTIFIED (LARGE PLANT..) AND TASKS OF EACH STUDENT MUST BE WELL PRECISED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PROJECT. ONLY ONE SUPERVISOR PER PROJECT

2. PROJECT PROPOSAL ALL TASKS MUST BE DEFINED INITIALLY, A COPY OF THE PROPOSAL MUST BE ATTACHED IN THE FINAL PROJECTS. NO PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT THE SIGNATURE OF THE SUPERVISOR IN THE FIRST PAGE OF THE PROJECT. ALL PROJECTS MUST BE WRITTEN IN THE SAME FORMAT,(see part 3 ).

2 PROJECT 1 (CHE498) - PROJECT MUST INCLUDE MASS AND ENERGY BALANCES (OVERALL AND INDIVIDUAL) - CALCULATION MUST ME ‘HAND CALCULATIONS’. - SOFTWARE PACKAGES (ASPEN, CHEMCAD ETC..) CAN BE USED AFTER DOING HAND CALCULATIONS. - FOR A GROUP PROJECT: CONTRIBUTION OF EACH STUDENT MUST BE CLEAR

2 PROJECT 2 (CHE499) - PROJECT MUST INCLUDE DESIGN CALCULATION. - AT LEAST TWO MAJOR EQUIPMENT MUST BE FULLY DESIGNED PER STUDENT. -OTHER EQUIPMENT MUST BE SIZED (DIFFERENT EQUIPMENT FOR EACH STUDENT IN THE CASE OF A GROUP PROJECT). - ALL DESIGN CALCULATIONS MUST BE MADE BY HAND AND FULLY EXPLAINED AND JUSTIFIED.

2 PROJECT 2 (CHE499) - SOFTWARE PACKAGES CAN BE USED ONCE HAND CALCULATIONS ACHIEVED. - CLEAR ECONOMIC STUDY MUST BE MADE. -ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY ISSUES MUST BE COVERED FOR THE APPROPRIATE PLANT AND PRODUCT.

3 FINAL REPORT FORMAT - THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS CONTAIN INFORMATION REGARDING THE DESIRED FORMAT, TYPES SIZES, TYPES FACES TO PREPARE THE FINAL GRADUATE PROJECT, PART I AND PART II. 3.1 GENERAL REPORT PREPARATION THE FINAL REPORT SHOULD INCLUDE IN SEQUENCE: TITLE PAGE (FIRST COVER PAGE), TABLE OF CONTENTS, ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, LIST OF TABLES, LIST OF FIGURES, ABSTRACT, CHAPTERS (SECTIONS) OF THE REPORT FOLLOWED BY RERENCES AND APPENDIX IF ANY. THE STUDENT(S) IS/ ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT A CD WITH THE REPORT.

3 FINAL REPORT FORMAT 3.2 TYPING SPECIFICATIONS ARIAL (14) SHOULD BE USED FOR TYPING THE TEXT BODY. A A4 SIZE SHEET ONLY WITH MARGINS OF 3.0CM ON EACH SIDE OF THE PAGE. 1.5 SPACE. DO NOT VIOLATE MARGINS, TEXT, TABLES, FIGURES AND EQUATIONS SHOULD NOT EXCEED THE MARGINS. USE FULL JUSTIFICATIONS. EACH CHAPTER OR MAIN SECTION OF THE REPORT SHOULD HAVE AN APPROPRIATE TITLE WHICH SHOULD BE TYPED IN ARIAL (16) UPPER CASE BOLD. USE TWO SPACES BETWEEN SECTIONS. MAIN HEADING SHOULD BE BOLD 14 BOLD SUB HEADING SHOULD BE ARIAL 14 BOLD, INITIAL LETTER SHOULD BE CAPITAL

3 FINAL REPORT FORMAT 3.3 FIGURES AND TABLES ALL FIGURES, TABLES AND GRAPHICS SHOULD BE INSERTED ON SEPARATE PAGES IN THE BODY OF THE REPORT AND MUST APPEAR CLOSE TO WHERE THEY ARE DESCRIBED AND MUST BE NUMBERED. FIGURES CAPTIONS SHOULD BE BELOW THE FIGURES. TABLES CAPTIONS SHOULD BE ABOVE THE TABLES. REFERENCES A LIST OF REFERENCES MUST BE PROVIDED AT THE END OF THE REPORT. THIS LIST SHOULD BE ARRANGED IN THE ORDER OF CITATION IN THE TEXT. NUMBER REFERENCE CITATIONS CONSECUTEVLY IN SQUARE BRACKETS [1]. REFER SIMPLY TO THE REFERNCE NUMBER [2]. THE REFENCE MUST COMPLETE AND PRECISE E.G - NAME OF AUTHOD (BOOK, ENCYCLOPEDIA); Title, volume, pagination, year month, editor, electronic address if any.

3 FINAL REPORT FORMAT 3.4 CALCULATIONS ALL CALCULATIONS MUST BE HAND CALCULATIONS, DETAILED, EXPLAIND AND REFERRED TO FIGURES AND ILLUSTRATIONS WHERE NECESSARY. PACKAGE SOFTWARE CAN BE USED IN ADDTION TO HAND CALCULATION BUT MUST NOT REPLACE HAND CALCULATIONS. ALL SYMBOLS MUST BE DEFINED IN NOMENCLATURE -UNITS UNITS SYMBOLS SHOULD BE USED WITH MEASURED QUANTITIES, 6KG, 3LBM, 51SECS USE SAME SYSTEMS OF UNITS THROUGHOUT ALL THE REPORT (SI UNITS, BRITISH UNITS
