S in Education Leadership and Administration  Created and implemented first Chinese Immersion program in NRV.  15+years experience with focus on ELL, TEFL, and Immersion.

District Goals  Embed S.T.E.M programming with Language Component  Offer Character Based Language instruction for 21 st century readiness  Use immersion as instructional method for language acquisition  Offer language opportunity within existing public programming to increase enrollment

Vision  To promote and provide educational excellence resulting in bi-literacy, bi-lingualism, and cultural competence through Chinese Immersion programming. (ISLLC #1, 2)  Collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders ensuring a shared set of goals and path are established and adjusted according to the needs of students, staff, families, and the local community. (ISLLC #3, 4, 5)  Embed language learning in all content areas ensuring continued growth in S.T.E.M, Fine Arts, and History, while adhering to and exceeding state standards. (ISLLC #6)

Rationale  Second language proficiency is a unique skill that can be applied to all areas and occupations.  Language Immersion programming can be embedded into existing programming making it a method of education rather than a curriculum.  Research has proven that it is the most effective method for language acquisition.

Professional Attributes  Educator for 15+ years- Language focus  Coordinated and Launched first Chinese Immersion Preschool in Blacksburg.  Expert in parent education, community engagement, hiring, interviewing, budgeting, marketing, and curriculum development for a character based program.  CARLA member and annual conference attendee  TEFL certified  NBPTS for 12 years

Final Thoughts  Our students and schools stand apart when we are forward thinking, take calculated risks, and use research to give our kids what they need to be successful and competitive when they leave the security of our institutions.  Language Immersion Programming will set our organization apart and create students with skills that few others have.  I have the passion, skills, and talents to ensure this program launches successfully and grows, creating bi- literate, bilingual, and culturally competent students.
