LHS CLASS OF 2020 ACADEMIC TRADITION *LHS is rated ‘Excellent’ by the Ohio Department of Education. *Also rated as one of the best high schools in the U.S. LHS promotes: Academic Excellence, College and Career Readiness, Fiscal Responsibility EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES *We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities and encourage students to get involved.

CLASS OF 2020 First Day of Class-August 22 nd for freshmen ONLY. First Day Materials-All freshman should come with a pen, pencil, and notebook paper. On the first day the teachers will tell the students what supplies they will need to start the year. There is no ‘supply’ list at the high school level Fees - Your child’s schedule will have the fee amounts listed. Fees vary from class to class and will be available in April on our website. Student Planner - The planner includes the school calendar, code of conduct, and dress code. It will also be used as a hall pass throughout the day. We would also encourage your child to record all assignments daily in their planner.

CLASS OF 2020 Pinnacle Internet Viewer (PIV) Pinnacle Internet Viewer Teachers enter grade information into their electronic grade book and PIV organizes and formats the data for convenient viewing at any time Same user name and password as in middle school!!! The following reports are available on PIV to parents: – teacher comments – future assignments – missing assignments – grades, assignments and test scores – Attendance – grades to date – automated notifications if you so desire

CLASS OF 2020 GPA/Ranking at the high school. Grade point averages will be positively affected by the number of honors and Advanced Placement classes taken in which your child earns an “A” or a “B.” **There is no class rank.** Students will be recognized according to their weighted GPA based on the following criteria: Summa Cum Laude — Weighted GPA of 4.00 and above Magna Cum Laude — Weighted GPA of 3.75 to 3.99 Cum Laude — Weighted GPA of 3.50 to 3.74

Grading System Semester Exams –semester exams are given at the end of each semester 2 nd Semester Exams- OPEN exams Each exam grade will appear on your students report card. At the end of each semester, you will have two nine weeks grades and an exam grade. Grading Percentages- -Each 9 Weeks=20% of grade (80% of entire grade) -Each Semester Exam=10% (20% of entire grade)

Graduation Requirements in Addition to LHS 21 Credits (1 of the following 3 is required) 1.Earn 18 Graduation Points on 7 End of Course Exams…OR 2.Remediation-free score on National College Admission Tests (ACT/SAT) and will be given free of charge in the fall of their junior year…OR 3.Earning an approved industry-recognized credential an achieving work-force readiness score on a related job skills assessment

What Classes Require an End of Course Exam? AIR Students will be tested in two parts in the following areas: *English 1 (English 2 as a sophomore) *Biology *Algebra 1 and/or Geometry *American History *American Government (sophomore year)

Graduation Pathway Option 1-End of Course Exams AIR tests are worth 5 points each (35 total) 5-Advanced 4-Accelerated 3-Proficient 2-Basic 1-Limited 18 total points are needed for graduation. **Students will have opportunity to retake tests with best score being counted.**

Other Ways to Earn Graduation Points-AP Courses Students taking an AP course in the tested area will NOT have to take the End of Course Exam (American History, American Government) AP Test ScoreGraduation Points

Other Ways to Earn Graduation Points-College Credit Plus Courses Students taking a CC+ class do not have to take the EOC exam. The grade they earn in the CC+ class will translate into a graduation point total. Students CANNOT used CC+ for their Math or Language Arts scores. CC+ Grade Graduation Points/EOC Score A5 B5 C4 D3

Graduation Pathway Option 2 Non-Remediation Score on a College Ready Assessment ACTSAT English=18English=430 Mathematics=22Mathematics=520 Reading=21Reading=450 *Starting with the school year, the State of Ohio will pay for all juniors to take the ACT.

Frequently Asked Questions 1. HOW MANY COURSES MAY A STUDENT TAKE? The maximum number of courses that a student may take at any time is (7). A student with seven classes will have a half-hour lunch period in addition to the scheduled courses. 6 classes will ensure each student receives a year long study hall. 2. WHAT IS A TYPICAL FRESHMAN SCHEDULE? Freshman are required to take the following courses: English, Math, Science, American Studies, and Physical Education. Students may elect to take up to two and half elective credits their freshman year. An additional half credit may be added if the student can waive Physical Education. Waivers are given to students in a high school sport, cheerleading, or band. 3. WHY HAVE CERTAIN COURSES BEEN SELECTED ON MY CHILD’S REGISTRATION FORM? Middle school teachers have reviewed every student’s registration form and selected courses that are best suited for each individual’s aptitude and ability.

Questions Continued 4. HOW ARE STUDENTS SELECTED FOR HONORS COURSES? Freshman honor courses include English, Biology, American Studies, and Geometry. Students are selected based on grades, standardized test scores, teacher recommendations and a writing prompt for Honors English. Those who have the highest scores are selected for honors courses. Students who complete Algebra 1 in 8 th grade are eligible for Honors Geometry. 5. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD DOES NOT DO THE SUMMER WORK FOR AN HONORS CLASS? The student will take zeroes for the work. The class will not be dropped. The only reason a student may drop an honors class is if the student is not placed appropriately.

Questions Continued 6. CAN MY STUDENT TAKE HONORS COURSES IN THE FUTURE IF THEY ARE NOT SELECTED FOR THEM THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR? Yes! If students do well in their regular core classes their freshmen year, they can be recommended by their teacher to take advanced coursework in grades

Schedule Changes? Students and/or parents can request schedule changes at any time before the end of the school year (May 27 th, 2016). After this date, no schedule changes will occur unless there is a clerical error or the student is not placed appropriately.
