Matter Grade 7

Learning Goals We are learning about the particles that make up everything around us.

Matter Anything that takes up space and has a mass. Examples: Me, Desk, Air, Apple…everything is made up of matter.

All matter is made up of tiny particles called atoms. Different kinds of matter are made up of different kinds of atoms.

Video

States of Matter

Other States of Matter 4 th State of Matter= PLASMA A gas that is electricaly charged. Found in stars and neon signs. The northern lights are an example of plasma in nature. Bose-Einstein Condensate When particles are cooled to absolute zero ( C)

Experiment #1 Water to Steam Groups:

Particle Theory of Matter 1. All matter is made up of tiny particles.

2. Particles have empty space between them.

3. Even though you cannot see them, particles are moving all the time.

4. Particles move faster and spread further apart when they are heated.

5. Particles are attracted to each other, so they tend to stay together rather than fly apart.

Experiment #2 Expansion and Contraction of a Balloon Groups:

Particle Theory Assignment
