EU DataGrid Tutorial NIKHEF, Amsterdam, December 12, 13

EDG Tutorial Introduction - n° 2 Introduction  The tutorials are aimed at users wishing to use the grid to run their applications n Mornings - presentations (slides on the web) n Afternoons - hands-on exercises (paper handouts and on the web)  Pre-requisites for participants: n No prior knowledge is required for the presentations. n Basic knowledge of Linux user environment (shells, editor, etc.) is necessary to complete the exercises.  Using a certificate for the grid is part of the tutorial (reduced validity)  Acronyms on posters  Ask questions any time

EDG Tutorial Introduction - n° 3 Logistics  Coffee (and tea) are free and are served in the NIKHEF hall  Lunch is at your own expenses and is served in the WTCW restaurant  At the end of the second day: cheese & wine (computer group invited)  For any help: secretariat at this floor behind the library  For any tutorial information see  For any nikhef information

EDG Tutorial Introduction - n° 4 Programme DAY1  Tutorial introduction  Introduction to Grid computing  The EDG Testbed  Security, Auth. & Authentication Coffee  Job Submission  Data Management Lunch  Exercises on security and job submission DAY2  Physics Applications and Use Cases  Information systems  Fabric Management Coffee  Earth Observation and Bio Applications  Networking and Monitoring Lunch  Exercises on data mgmt & info systems Wine & cheese party

EDG Tutorial Introduction - n° 5 Hands-on Exercises  These work stations are connected to the nikhef network n Student accounts on those machines available  You will connect to User Interface machine to submit your jobs n This requires a user account on the UI machine and a user certificate to use grid resources  You will receive handouts containing details on the exercises n Take your time to read until you get to the exercises n You work at your own pace n Ask help in case you have questions or run into problem

EDG Tutorial Introduction - n° 6 We want your feedback  Your feedback is actively sought  Please tell us of mistakes in the presentations  Similarly for the exercises  Thanks to:  David Groep (NIKHEF),  Jeff Templon (NIKHEF),  Jules Wolfrat (SARA),  Kors Bos (NIKHEF),  Laurence Field (RAL)  Wim Som de Cerff (KNMI),  NIKHEF computer staff
