How might your social security number be used illegally? I will understand what is expected of me as a student in a work based learning program The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) protects workers from unfair treatment by their employers. Minimum Wage – the lowest hourly rate of pay that most employees must receive What are the exceptions)

Once an employee is 18, there are no Federal child labor rules. Federal child labor rules do not require work permits. However, many states issue age certificates if you are asked to provide them by your employer. All states have child labor standards. When Federal and state standards are different,

Youth Minimum Wage Program A minimum wage of not less than $4.25 may be paid to employees under the age of 20 for their first 90 consecutive calendar days of employment with any employer as long as their work does not displace other workers. After 90 consecutive days of employment, or when the worker reaches age 20 (whichever comes first), the worker must receive at least the Federal minimum wage.Federal minimum wage UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF LABOR

The FLSA child labor provisions are designed to protect the educational opportunities of youth and prohibit their employment in jobs and under conditions detrimental to their health or safety. The child labor provisions include some restrictions on hours of work for youth under 16 years of age and lists of hazardous occupations too dangerous for young workers to perform.

Florida Guidelines for Students Working Work Schedule: Students are expected to work the number of hours that meet the needs of the business while still abiding by the Federal and State Child Labor Laws. Students may not be employed by an individual person, nor be self- employed. Students may work for a family business provided the supervisor is not a family member and the business carries Workman’s Compensation insurance for students employed.

Accident Procedures If an accident should happen, the teacher/coordinator must be contacted immediately. If the teacher is not available, the Vocational Administrator at the student’s school must be informed. The parent will be contacted immediately by the teacher or a designated person.

Florida Child Labor Laws May work up to 30 hours per week. Not before 6:30 am or later than 11 p.m. No more than 8 hours a day when school is scheduled the following day. One days when school does not follow, there are no hour restrictions. No more than 6 consecutive days in any one week.

Breaks – Minors may work no more than 4 consecutive hours without a 30 minute uninterrupted break. Cannot work in the following occupations: Working in or around explosives or radioactive substances Operating motor vehicles Logging or sawmilling Operating power-driven meat processing machines to include meat and vegetable slicers; slaughtering, meat packing, processing or rendering.
