HAIRDRESSER A Hairdresser cuts, colours, styles and care for the clients’ hair and scalp. They also trim and shave moustaches and beards. Skills and knowledges Hairdressers need to have skill when cutting, styling and colouring their clients hair. Creative and artistic skills Good communication with their clients.’ They need to have good time management skills and need to be organized. Good basic maths skills. They need the knowledge of the latest hairstyles. They need to know what products to use on different skin and hair types. When using conditioner always keep conditioner at least an inch away from your scalp. They need to know about the health regulations.

PAY Hairdressers job average income is $24,400 and their national average income is $38,900 On the first year apprenticeship you earn between $15,000 and $50,000 Qualifications To get into the hairdressing industry they need to have an apprenticeship and you need to gain a national certificate in Hairdressing. A minimum of 3 years of secondary education is needed to start an apprenticeship. Useful Subjects are needed to have design and art. The national certificate in salon support and salon management are also available.

ABOUT THE JOB Hairdressers usually work in salons where it is quite busy they can also work in places such as rest homes and on television sets. They spend a lot of time on their feet so need to be quite patient and being used to standing on their feet a lot. Hairdressers usually work unsupervised but may supervise an assistant or apprentice. They also contact other clients and suppliers. Working Hours They often work normal or long hours up to 33 hours a week and sometimes are asked to work in the weekends.
