Turn and Talk  What is a conjunctive adverb?

Conjunctive AdverbsConjunctive Adverbs  is an adverb that connects two clauses.adverb  Conjunctive adverbs show cause and effect, sequence, contrast, comparison, or other relationships.  When the job of an adverb is to connect ideas, we call it a conjunctive adverb.adverb  A Conjunctive adverb is followed by a comma.

Conjunctive Adverbs Continued  When a conjunctive adverb connects two independent clauses in one sentence, it is preceded by a semicolon and followed by a comma. Tuition increases, say officials, are driven by the universities' costs; consequently, tuition income typically covers less than 50% of college budgets

History of Afghanistan  What do we know about the Mujahedeen?

Activity  In your groups (4) each member will develop an argument for one of the character’s name. Read their story-background- and develop an argument for the following prompt: AT THIS TIME (1979), SHOULD THE U.S. SEND TROOPS OR WEAPONS OR SUPPLIES TO HELP THE MUJAHEDIN IN AFGHANISTAN?  Afterwards, you will share out your arguments and decide collectively as a group an answer. If you say yes, be sure to decide on how much money?  Finally, one group member will present your argument and final decision to the prompt.

Homework  Read and annotate chapter 5 of The Kite Runner.

Wednesday, October 28, 2015  ACT Passage  As a group (4), create an answer key. The final answer key will be you grade CWPA: 15 points

Objective  SWBAT create sentences using conjunctive adverbs.

Practice  Create sentence for each Conjunctive Adverb on the handout.

Homework  Read and annotate chapter 6 of The Kite Runner.

Thursday, October 29, 2015  SSR 20 minutes

Objective  SWBAT read and annotate chapter 7 of The Kite Runner.  SWBAT Develop an argument judging whether or not Amir is a good friend to Hassan.

Class Read Aloud of Chapter 7  As we read, take notes and be prepared to answer questions.

Assignment  Develop an argument assessing whether or not you think Amir is a good friend.  Use at least 3 pieces of evidence from the text.  We will debate this whole class. Here’s the catch…I will determine whether your are yay or nay. So this means as you develop your argument you should consider the opposing view.  1’s are Yay  2’s are Nay   If we do not get to the debate, we will do so tomorrow.

Objective  SWBAT read and annotate chapter 8 of The Kite Runner.  SWBAT Develop an argument judging whether or not Amir is a good friend to Hassan.

Homework  Read and annotate chapter 9.
