???Question??? Is the magnetism of a magnet affected by dropping it? ???????????????

Research & Hypothesis In my research, I learned about magnetism, and the effect of iron, steel, air, and water on magnets. I found the answer to my experiment but I still tested it. Hypothesis: If I drop a magnet, then its magnetism will be lowered slightly.

Materials List Paper Pencil 1 box of paper clips 5 magnets 1 piece of wood Ruler Camera Chair or Stool Marker Tape

Procedure 1.Gather all the materials. 2.Label the magnets with tape and a marker. 3.Set up a table for data. 4.Put paper clips in a pile. 5.Put the magnet in the pile for 5 seconds. 6.Pull it out and shake it gently for 5 seconds.

Procedure Con. 7.Count how many paper clips each magnet holds. 8.Record your data. 9.At this point, stop to take pictures. 10.Measure 5 feet. 11.Mark your spot with the tape and Marker. 12.Lay the wood on the ground. 13.Set the stool or chair next to the wood.

Procedure Con. 14.Stand on the stool or chair but make sure your magnets are in reach. 15.Drop the magnets, one at a time, 5 times each. 16.Stop to take more pictures. 17.Do the same thing you did the first time with the paper clips. 18.Count them the same way. 19.Repeat 4 times.

Magnet Pix

Independent Manipulated & Dependent Responding Variables IMV- Dropping the magnets. DRV- How many paper clips it picks up.

Constant & Control The height The amount of time you keep the magnet in the paper clips. The amount of time you shake the magnet. None

Analysis & Conclusion My data shows that the larger magnets did not lose as many paper clips as the smaller magnets. The bigger magnets lost a few paper clips but the smaller magnets decreased by a little over 1/2. I have concluded that my hypothesis was correct. By dropping the magnets, their magnetism will decrease slightly.
