Presentation transcript:

thesis Carbohydrates are complex biochemical structures that serve vital functions in the human body. Composed of a building block of sugar, they are the main source of energy for the body. One or more sugars will link together to form carbohydrates of different types. Complex carbohydrates consist of thousands of repeating sugar units and are the major constituent of starch. Nucleotides such as DNA are also composed of carbohydrates.

introduction Today we are gong to talk about carbohydrates: types of carbohydrates and there functions ! There are 3 types of carbohydrates and they are: Monosaccharide, Polysaccharides, and Disaccharides.

functions Function of a monosaccharide: The word monosaccharide is derived from mono, meaning "one", and saccharide, meaning "sugar". Function of a polysaccharide: Polysaccharides or complex carbohydrates are usually monomers and consist of thousands of repeating glucose units. Naturally, they allow for the storage of large quantities of glucose. Function of a disaccharide: Disaccharides, meaning "two sugars", are commonly found in nature as sucrose, lactose and maltose.

Monosaccharide * All of them are ketone

Polysaccharide *All of them are ketone

Disaccharide * All of these are ketone
