Skeletal System Functions: a. Support- provides a framework for the body by supporting soft tissues and providing points of attachment for muscle.
Functions continued B. Protection- protects internal organs from injury. C. Assisting in Movement- skeletal muscles attach to bones and together make movement possible.
Functions D. Mineral Homeostasis- stores minerals (calcium and phosphorus). On demand, bone can release these minerals into the system to maintain balance.
Functions E. Production of Blood Cells- red bone marrow produces red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. – Mostly in pelvis, ribs, sternum, vertebrae, skull, and the ends of leg and arm bones.
Functions F. Storage of energy- triglycerides (fat) is stored in yellow marrow of the bone and provides and energy store to the body.
