Kingdoms

Scientists use differences in organisms to help identify them Essential Question: How do scientists identify organisms belonging to different kingdoms? Think: What kind of differences?

REMEMBER: at first all living things were classified into 2 kingdoms: plants & animals NOW there are 6 kingdoms: plants, animals, protists, fungi, archaebacteria, eubacteria

Bacteria are tiny prokaryotes that live everywhere, but we can’t see them.

Protists are eukaryotes but only have one cell

Fungi are mushrooms, mold and mildew. They like to live in wet environments

Plants are all green and can’t move.

Animals can move around and eat other things

What kingdom?

Bacteria

What kingdom? Animal

What kingdom? Plant

What kingdom? Fungi

Protist What kingdom?

Animal What kingdom?

Protist What kingdom?

Bacteria

What kingdom? Fungi

What kingdom? Plant

Think: Which Kingdom?

prokaryotic, unicellular, and can move only small distances

autotroph, multicellular, and cannot move

unicellular and eukaryotic

eukaryotic, heterotrophic and can move

Exit Ticket List 2x defining characteristics of bacteria List 2x defining characteristics of fungi List 2x defining characteristics of protists What are the two kingdoms that bacteria split into? What type of organism is: multicellular, heterotrophic, eukaryotic, and cannot move?
