ERCOT Public 1 AS Demand Curves for Real-Time Co-optimization of Energy & Ancillary Services

ERCOT Public 2 Constructing AS Demand Curves – Concept paper From the ORDC for Spinning Reserves: 1.Regulation Up Service (RegUp) Demand Curve a)Carve out RegUp Demand Curve from the first part of ORDC for Spinning Reserves 1.The width of the carve out is the required MW for RegUp 2.Regulation Down Service (RegDn) Demand Curve a)RegDn Demand Curve is the same as the RegUp Demand Curve in terms of price but the MW width of the RegDn Demand Curve is equal to the RegDn MW requirement 3.Responsive Reserve Service (RRS) Demand Curve a)Carve out RRS Demand Curve from the remaining part of ORDC for Spinning Reserves after removing the RegUp requirement 1.The width of the carve out is the required MW for RRS From the ORDC for the combined Spinning and Non-Spinning Reserves: 4.Non-Spin Service (Non-Spin) Demand Curve a)Carve out Non-Spin Demand Curve from the ORDC for the combined Spinning and Non-Spinning Reserves starting from the MW point equal to the sum of the RegUp and RRS MW requirement

ERCOT Public 3 Constructing AS Demand Curves – Other Ideas ? 1.Another approach would be to modify the carve out of the individual AS demand curves from the ORDC, but allow the carve outs of the ORDC to OVERLAP

ERCOT Public 4 Constructing AS Demand Curves – Concept paper ORDC – Spinning Reserves ORDC – Combined Spinning & Non-Spinning Reserves Non-Spin Demand Curve MW $/MW RegUp Demand Curve RRS Demand Curve

ERCOT Public 5 Example AS Demand Curve for 2015 Summer Attached are 12 separate proposed demand curves based on the following: 1.Summer 2015 ORDC curves for spinning and non spinning reserves based on the mean and standard deviation (mu and sigma). 2.Overlay the estimated Regulation and Responsive Reserve quantities to the spinning reserve ORDC. 3.All remaining reserves considered Non-Spinning. 4.Examples use a SWOC of 3,000 $/MWh, VOLL 9,000 $MWh, with a maximum demand curve price of 6,000 $/MWh

ERCOT Public 6 Example AS Demand Curve for 2015 Summer Summer 2015 Hour Block and 1-2 Summer 2015 Hour Block and 1-2 Regulation 755 MW (HE23) Regulation 755 MW (HE23) Responsive Reserve 2702 MW (HE23) Responsive Reserve 2702 MW (HE23)
