The Port of Houston: A Major Economic Engine at Work The Port of Houston is a major economic engine for the Houston region and beyond, supporting the creation of more than 2.1 million nationwide jobs and the generation of $499 billion in economic activity nationally. The Port is home to the nation’s largest petrochemical complex and is also the nation’s largest port for foreign waterborne tonnage and its number one exporter of goods.
